Tennessee football standout Trey Smith has not had a good time during the 2021 NFL Draft.

Despite being a two-time All-SEC First Team performer, former Tennessee football star Trey Smith went undrafted through the first two days of the 2021 NFL Draft.

Even though the Vols struggled mightily on the gridiron last season, Smith shined in what was an otherwise disastrous campaign for the Tennessee football program. The only Volunteer player who was taken on day two of the draft was wide receiver Josh Palmer. He went No. 77 overall in the third round to the on-the-rise Los Angeles Chargers. Palmer lands in a great spot for him.

Smith took to Twitter late on Friday night to verbalize his on-going draft-weekend frustrations.

Tennessee football: Trey Smith cannot believe he did not get drafted on day two

Look. Players fall down the draft board all the time. Smith was not the first college star for this to happen to, nor will he be the last. Every NFL team’s draft board is constructed differently. Though he could have come off the board earlier, keep in mind that he plays the unsexy position of guard for an SEC East team that everybody recognizes is in the midst of pure and undeniable chaos.

Smith may want to make all the teams that passed on him pay for it, but they all had their reasons to. Again, this is nothing personal, this is just business. While it is a shame that a high-end SEC talent like Smith was not able to thoroughly enjoy either of the first two days of the NFL Draft, keep in mind that half of the league goes undrafted. Talent will only get you so far in this league.

Smith may have been a stud while in Knoxville, but he will be joining the NFL as just another guy.
