The sports world makes for a beautiful palette but individual images can get lost in the constant shuffle. Here are the best Getty Images sports photos from this week.

Fernando Tatis Jr. and Trent Grisham of the San Diego Padres celebrate an 8-7 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers in 11th innings at Dodger Stadium on April 25, 2021, in Los Angeles, California.

The San Diego Padres at last have a very good team this season and have something to prove to the Los Angeles Dodgers who have won the National League West Division the last eight years and are the current World Series Champions. Although it’s very early on in the season, the intensity between these two teams was obvious. This photo was taken during the third game of a very entertaining series where star player Fernando Tatis Jr. of the Padres had hit two home runs in both games prior and hit one in this game earlier on. I was hoping he would hit another as it would have been a historic achievement, but he didn’t end up doing this. Nevertheless, when the game was over, Tatis Jr. and teammate Trent Grisham celebrated a win over the Dodgers in centerfield like it was a playoff game.

Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics holds his son Deuce Tatum on the court after the Celtics defeat the Charlotte Hornets 120-111 at TD Garden on April 28, 2021, in Boston, Massachusetts.

Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics is a dedicated father to his three-year-old son Deuce. Tatum writes his name on his shoes every game and has his face tattooed on his calf. After the Celtics defeated the Charlotte Hornets, I noticed Tatum turn towards the fans sitting courtside and Deuce run out to meet him. He picked him up and twirled him around over his head near the free-throw line before teammate Tristan Thompson came out to say hello to Deuce as well. Because of the pandemic and limited fans in arenas, candid moments with family are harder to come by, so it was nice to see Deuce back in the building!

Josh Bailey of the New York Islanders watches a second-period shot by Anthony Beauvillier get past Igor Shesterkin of the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden on April 29, 2021, in New York City. The Islanders shut out the Rangers 4-0.

The image was taken from the hockey netcam mounted at the back of the net during a New York Islanders vs New York Rangers game. These types of images are hugely popular as they provide fans a view from inside the net, which is especially exciting during game-winning moments. The remote camera, which is inside a protective enclosure, is equipped with a fisheye lens that enables each image to be ‘framed’ by the red bars (although they were cropped out in this photo). It is triggered via a radio remote from my shooting location at the other end of the ice 200-feet away. Although this wasn’t a game-winning moment, it was cool to capture this moment with the view of the puck coming right at you as it gets past Rangers goalie Igor Shesterkin.

Teddy Blueger of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Jeremy Lauzon of the Boston Bruins fight in the third period during their game at PPG PAINTS Arena on April 27, 2021, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Boston Bruins won 3-1.

This particular game had high tensions because the Boston Bruins and the Pittsburgh Penguins were both fighting for a spot in the playoffs. Their previous game was low scoring and the Penguins ended up winning with one single goal in the third period, so going into this game I had a good feeling that the Bruins would come out onto the ice with full energy to try to win this game. I imagine the Penguins knew that would happen too, so it was a fairly physical game. What stuck out to me about this image is the calmness in Jeremy Lauzon’s face even though he’s in the middle of a fight with Teddy Blueger of the Penguins.
