St. Louis Cardinals’ pitcher Adam Wainwright will be back on the mound Monday night after being taken off the COVID-19 list.

St. Louis Cardinals veteran starter Adam Wainwright was included in the active roster just in time for Monday’s opener against the New York Mets. St Louis chose to option outfielder Austin Dean to Memphis to make room for Wainwright on the roster.

Wainwright had previously been placed on the COVID-19 list on April 29 for being in close contact with a family member who had tested positive for the virus. He’s healthy now and is set to appear in his sixth start of the season and 399th career game at Busch Stadium. Currently, he’s just two strikeouts shy of 1,000 at home, and he’ll want to improve his 0-3 record and 4.08 ERA this season.

The Cardinals will bat against Mets left-hander Joey Lucchiesi, rather than Jacob deGrom, who was originally set to pitch on Monday but was given additional reset.

Wainwright’s return to Busch Stadium should give St. Louis an edge to start the four-game series against New York, whose beleaguered bullpen barely closed their game against the Phillies last night.
