Toronto Blue Jays outfielder George Springer is heading back to the injured reserve for the with a quad injury.

The Toronto Blue Jays have not had the greatest luck when it comes to the health of outfielder George Springer. After missing the start of the season due to an oblique injury, Springer finds his way on the injured list once again after just returning to the team last week.

On Wednesday, the Blue Jays announced that they have placed Springer on the 10-day injured list with a right quad strain. Toronto called up outfielder Jonathan Davis in a corresponding move.

Blue Jays: George Springer hits injured list again, this time with right quad strain

The injury occurred during Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Braves, where Springer left early with what manager Charlie Montoyo originally described as “leg fatigue.” Springer missed Toronto’s next three games due to the quad injury. After waiting on MRI results, the team officially placed him on the injured list.

Springer was Toronto’s biggest get of the offseason, as they signed him to a six-year, $150 million contract. The outfielder did not make it out of spring training healthy, as he suffered what was later determined to be a Grade 2 oblique strain. He had just made his debut with the team on Apr. 28 against the Washington Nationals.

The outfielder only played in four games this season before his quad injury, where he logged three hits (two home runs), three RBI and three runs scored in 15 at-bats.

Signing Springer was a sign that the Blue Jays were looking to improve their roster following their Wild Card Round elimination at the hands of the rival Tampa Bay Rays. While it is still early in the season, the Blue Jays and Springer have not had the greatest luck in the injury department.
