Ohio State, Clemson and others battled for the attention of three-star cornerback Ryan Turner, but the Buckeyes came out on top.

Three-star cornerback Ryan Turner is scheduled to visit Ohio State in June. He couldn’t wait until then to give his pledge to the Buckeyes.

Turner announced his commitment to Ohio State on Wednesday, picking the Buckeyes over Clemson, Penn State, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Miami and others.

“Let’s Get to Work!!” Turner tweeted along with a statement thanking everyone who has supported him during the recruiting process.

What is Ohio State getting in Ryan Turner?

Turner is technically a three-star prospect in the 247Sports composite, but he got a four-star nod from Rivals. In fact, at No. 380 in the class of 2022, he’s just 20 places away from four-star status in the consensus. He is the No. 34 cornerback and No. 48 recruit from the state of Florida, according to the 247Sports Composite.

The Buckeyes already have commitments from two highly-rated cornerbacks in the class of 2022. Five-star Jaheim Singletary is one of the stars of the haul, while four-star Jyaire Brown should also make it a strong three-man cornerback class.

Even though Turner doesn’t match up to those players in rankings, his potential is clear. At 6-foot, 180 pounds, he has good enough length to challenge college wideouts. He also possesses good speed as a sprinter and relay runner on his high school track team.

He’s not just a track athlete, though. His skill on the football field has attracted the attention of big programs for a reason. He can get the job done in coverage.

During his junior season with Chaminade-Madonna HS, he helped get his team to the 3A state title game in Florida. He had 18 tackles and an interception in seven games.
