Court documents produced in the lawsuit between Brian Bowen and Adidas revealed a series of payments between the apparel company and Zion Williamson’s family.

New allegations of illegal benefits given to Duke stars Zion Williamson’s family have just hit the fan.

The News & Observer in Raleigh reported on the developments citing court documents filled in the lawsuit between former Louisville and South Carolina guard Brian Bowen and Adidas.

According to a letter sent from Adidas lawyer William Taft, Adidas “is aware of the following documents suggesting that certain fund transfers to Mr. Williamson or his family may have occurred.”

A total of nine payments were listed from 2016 and 2017, adding up to $5,474.

Even more concerning, the letter referenced larger monthly payments between Adidas employees and the Williamson family, including transfers of $3,000 per month “for an unspecified period of time.”

Illegal benefits accusations have followed Zion Williamson around

These allegations are being used by Bowen to prove that Adidas committed money laundering, bribery and fraud, which ultimately resulted in his loss of NCAA eligibility. For Duke, they will reopen the discussion around Williamson and his time with the Blue Devils.

The NCAA is still dealing with the fallout from the FBI’s investigation into college basketball corruption. They could take a look at Duke and what they knew or didn’t know about Williamson’s eligibility.

Duke is a Nike school while these latest documents refer to payments from Adidas, so they may not impact the school itself.

While the evidence of transfers is new, allegations that Williamson’s family took money are anything but. Williamson’s former marketing agent and attorney Michael Avenatti separately claimed the forward received illegal benefits as part of his recruitment to college.
