2. Concerns over Greg Newsome II’s health

The Browns already have injury concerns at cornerback with Denzel Ward and Greedy Williams. Now 20-year-old Greg Newsome II is added to the mix after being a first-round selection.

Newsome missed games in all three of his collegiate seasons at Northwestern and only played in three in 2020.

College injuries should not define Newsome’s potential NFL future. However, it does stand out at a position that is already filled with injury issues. Could the Browns have traded back and drafted a suitable corner early in the second round instead? This question may be asked down the line if the injuries continue for all the top young corners in town.

There is no denying Newsome’s talent. Teams just didn’t throw his way because the receivers were rarely open. But he was also not available every game and that is a potential problem.

The hope now should be the Browns just stockpiling talent and using a rotation at corner in 2021. That may be necessary all over the field given the extra game added to the schedule.
