Texas A&M football head coach Jimbo Fisher thinks his Aggies will beat Nick Saban’s Alabama football team when they meet on Oct. 9.

Though no Nick Saban disciple has ever beaten him, Texas A&M football head coach Jimbo Fisher really likes his Aggies’ chances when Saban’s Alabama football team comes to town on Oct. 9.

“We’re going to beat his ass when he’s there,” said Fisher to the Houston Touchdown club on Wednesday afternoon. “Don’t worry.”

Fisher may have said this a bit jokingly, but if any former Saban disciple is going to beat his former mentor, it might be him. Since arriving in College Station, the Aggies have gone from a middle-of-the-pack SEC West team to a program that was one spot away from reaching the College Football Playoff. Fisher is also a national championship-winning coach from when he was at Florida State.

Jimbo Fisher expects Texas A&M to beat Alabama at home this season

If you look at both SEC West teams’ schedules, Alabama has the harder of the two in the first half. The Crimson Tide will face Miami in a neutral-site affair in Atlanta to begin the season. They begin SEC play two weeks later at Florida in The Swamp. The week before making the trek to College Station, Alabama will face another Saban protege in Lane Kiffin’s upstart Ole Miss Rebels at home.

As for the Aggies, the “‘neutral-site affair” vs. Colorado in Denver in early September could be tricky, as could old Southwest rival Arkansas in Jerryworld. With Mississippi State coming to town a week before the Alabama game, there is a strong chance Texas A&M is 5-0 as well. This will be the marquee game of the weekend.

So could Texas A&M beat Alabama? Don’t rule it out.

Alabama lost a ton of talent to the 2021 NFL Draft. While sophomore quarterback Bryce Young is every bit the real deal, Texas A&M has elite skill-position players such as running back Isaiah Spiller and tight end Jalen Wydermyer on pace for First-Team All-SEC nods. Whoever wins the A&M starting quarterback job must be ready.

Fisher and Texas A&M may want Alabama, but they need to be careful about shaking the bear, especially since Saban has never lost to one of his former assistants.
