The Texas football program shares a touching tribute video to honor the life of Jake Ehlinger.

The Texas football team and the Greater Austin Area are in mourning over the tragic loss of Longhorns linebacker Jake Ehlinger.

The younger brother of former Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger was found deceased by the Austin Police Department on Thursday afternoon. While the authorities do not suspect any suspicious activity, Ehlinger was only 20-years-old. He was entering his redshirt sophomore season with the Longhorns program. While he had yet to play for Texas, this could have been his breakout year.

Here is the touching video the Texas football team shared on Thursday night after his passing.

Texas football: Longhorns share a tribute video of the late Jake Ehlinger

This news shocked the college football world. Though he played for the archrival Oklahoma Sooners, even Cleveland Browns quarterback and Austin Area native Baker Mayfield paid his respects to Ehlinger on Twitter Thursday evening. It was only this past weekend that Sam Ehlinger was selected by the Indianapolis Colts in the 2021 NFL Draft. This is all unfathomable.

Even if this is Steve Sarkisian’s first year in Austin, this will be the greatest challenge he and his new team will have to overcome in 2021. To lose a player in the heart of his life this tragically is one thing, but for him to hail from one of the most important families in program history is another. As Austin mourns the loss of Ehlinger, expect Texas to play this season for Jake.

Texas was first-class in sharing this video in the wake of Ehlinger’s untimely passing Thursday.
