3 key free agents Kansas City Chiefs can still sign after NFL Draft

The Chiefs know exactly what they are getting in Bashaud Breeland already
While the Chiefs did get better with their six selections in the 2021 NFL Draft, they did not address the defensive backfield at all with any of those half-dozen picks. One player who is still readily available on the free agency market could be making his return to the Chiefs for a third season in cornerback Bashaud Breeland. He started 26 regular-season games for them in the last two years.
Breeland did miss time last year for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy. He made an epic apology video before returning to the team later in the season. Breeland still finished with two interceptions and broke up nine passes in the 11 games he played for the 2020 Chiefs. Obviously, Kansas City knows what he can bring to Steve Spagnuolo’s defense firsthand. He may come back.
No, this is not the sexy free-agent acquisition to really make Chiefs Kingdom excited. However, at this point of the offseason, that is not what any free-agency acquisition should be about anyway. Any move made by general manager Brett Veach and his staff should be about one thing and one thing only: Making the smart and well-calculated moves to set themselves up for a championship.
While the Chiefs may want to look at adding someone else to bolster their secondary, they at least know what they would be getting in Breeland should they welcome him back into the fold for a third season. Though they cannot afford to have him miss time for extracurricular reasons like they did a season ago, the Chiefs at least have a baseline for what they covet in a cornerback.
