Vanderbilt pitcher Kumar Rocker struck out four batters in the first inning of Friday’s game against Alabama.

The 2021 MLB Draft is set to take place on July 11, and it will be headlined by two Vanderbilt pitchers in Jack Leiter and Kumar Rocker. Both are bound to be taken off the board within the top-four selections to either the Pittsburgh Pirates (No. 1), Texas Rangers (No. 2), Detroit Tigers (No. 3), or Boston Red Sox (No. 4), but how are they doing so far this collegiate season? For Kumar, things are going pretty great. Just check out his latest outing for the Commodores.

During Friday’s game against the Alabama Crimson Tide, Kumar actually struck out four batters on 13 pitches in the top of the first inning! That only came to fruition after Alabama outfielder William Hamiter reached on a wild pitch after striking out.

How did the rest of the game go for Rocker, you might be asking? Well, he surrendered six earned runs on six hits in five innings, but he did strike out 13 batters in the process. However, Rocker secured the win after the Commodores outscored the Crimson Tide 9-6. This is all per Vanderbilt baseball’s official website.

With this latest start in the books, Rocker is now an impressive 11-1 on the 2021 season. Rocker owns a 2.31 ERA and 0.892 WHIP, while striking out 110 batters and walking 24 in 74.0 innings of works (12 appearances).

Leiter is also having a great campaign for Vanderbilt. Through 11 games, Leiter (7-2) owns a 2.10 ERA and 0.886 WHIP, where he struck out 106 batters and walked 29 in 64.1 innings of work.

For those MLB teams selecting at the top of the draft, Rocker just made his case with his dominant first inning on Friday.
