Eddie Rosario gets bailed out on an awful check-swing call by this asleep-at-the-wheel umpire.

If Cleveland Indians outfielder Eddie Rosario did not swing at Chicago Cubs reliever Justin Steele’s offering, then I have a billion dollars in my bank account and own a Fortune 500 company.

While having sweet financial independence as a 30-something is cool and all, there was nothing cool about this horrendously blown call by the third base umpire. Steele’s pitch may have been Ron Swanson high-and-tight, but that non-swing by Rosario could have totally popped a piñata at your favorite niece or nephew’s sixth birthday party. Unfortunately, no candy was to be gathered.

If the bat does not travel 360 degrees around your body, you can find a way to not call it a swing.

Eddie Rosario swung at Justin Steele’s pitch, and everybody knows he did

While it is utterly blasphemous to question the sanctity of an umpire’s precious strike zone, sometimes you just gotta call the kettle black, Blue. I have seen dozens of eight-year-old castle builders in a Pinto outfield pay more attention than that third base umpire. That dirt architect was so done with baseball before he even got to coach pitch, and that blown call reeked of Jim Joyce.

Unfortunately, we cannot review balls and strikes, no matter how much Rob Manfred slurs his speech down in Arlington. The only baseball players who got off easier than Rosario in the last 18 months were the Houston Astros. While Rosario did nothing wrong here, he benefits from awful officiating and continued Major League incompetence. And Alec Bohm still hasn’t touched home ….

Next time Rosario complains about balls and strikes, just don’t, because you got away with one.
