The Kansas City Chiefs 2021 schedule is out as Patrick Mahomes and company look to claim their second Super Bowl title in three years.

Sometimes the best thing to happen to a franchise is a loss and the Kansas City Chiefs learned a hard lesson from their brutal Super Bowl 55 defeat at the hands of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Patrick Mahomes was running for his life most of the time as a makeshift Chiefs’ offensive line was absolutely decimated by the Buccaneers’ defensive front, leading directly to a major offseason effort to invest in protection for the NFL’s best quarterback.

Kansas City heavily overhauled its line, with the big moves being dropping a boatload of money in Joe Thuney’s lap and trading for Orlando Brown to succeed Eric Fisher at left tackle. This dramatic allocation of resources into the offensive line has cost the Chiefs depth in some areas but was a necessary investment to keep Mahomes upright for this year and beyond.

The presence of Mahomes alone will make the Chiefs a marquee attraction for the NFL. Kansas City is favored to win the AFC West again but should get a stiffer test from the Los Angeles Chargers and could face a big threat if the Denver Broncos manage to pull off a trade for Aaron Rodgers prior to the start of the season.

Facing off with the NFC East should allow the Chiefs to stack up some wins against mediocre teams while the AFC North should offer more of a challenge to Mahomes. Dates with the Buffalo Bills, Green Bay Packers and Tennessee Titans also should provide good tests for Kansas City during the regular season.
