LSU and Michigan are interesting dark horses to contend for a national championship.

Though they are not expected to do so, keep an eye on the LSU football team and the Michigan football program when it comes to being a dark horse to contend for and win a national championship this season.

While there are only about eight or so teams that can win the College Football Playoff annually, you could argue there are about as many as 20 teams who could make the four-team field and potentially compete for one on a big stage. Of those 20 contending teams, the latest college football futures suggest LSU and Michigan are right up there with the very best of them.

LSU football, Michigan football are sneaky long shot picks to win national title

LSU and Michigan have identical odds of +2500 to win the 2022 College Football Playoff National Championship, along with four other Power 5 teams.

Those teams are the Indiana Hoosiers, the Kentucky Wildcats, the Ole Miss Rebels and the Texas A&M Aggies. All these teams should finish the season inside of the top 25, but are probably not winning a division title either.

LSU is tied for the third best title odds out of the SEC with Ole Miss and Texas A&M, trailing only the favorite Alabama (+350) and SEC East favorite Georgia (+850). Michigan is tied for the second best odds out of the Big Ten with Indiana, trailing only Ohio State (+600).

Even at only +2500, these odds signify LSU and Michigan should at least be New Year’s Six Bowl-caliber this season.

While LSU and Michigan may not win it all, you can get the Tigers and Wolverines at great value.
