Kansas City Royals fans welcomed Lorenzo Cain back to Kauffman with a standing ovation.

Hot take: The best fans in baseball are in Missouri, but they don’t cheer in St. Louis.

Cardinals fans love to boast the claim as the best in baseball but on the other side of the state, Royals fans made a pretty good case for themselves on Tuesday night. With the Milwaukee Brewers in town, fans welcomed back former Royals outfielder Lorenzo Cain with a standing ovation.

As Cain approached the batter’s box in the first inning, fans lucky enough to be at Kauffman Stadium greeted him the way a World Series hero deserves.

Royals fans cheer Lorenzo Cain in his return to Kansas City

Whether or not you’re a Royals fan, listening to the hometown crowd welcome Cain back was an insanely cool thing to witness.

Tuesday marked the first time Cain took an at-bat at Kauffman since he was a member of the Royals. Milwaukee has played just two series against Kansas City since Cain left after the 2017 season but the third time was the charm as far as fans being able to give him his flowers.

Cain was an instrumental part of the 2015 Royals team that captured the franchise’s second-ever World Series title and was a fan favorite during his seven year career in Kansas City.
