Former LSU football player TJ Finley may be joining Bryan Harsin’s Auburn football team.

If June 3’s decision goes in former LSU football player TJ Finley’s favor, he could be the next member of the Auburn football team.

This date holds massive value in Finley’s transfer decision. It is when SEC school presidents will vote on either maintaining or getting rid of their intraconference transfer policies. If they are upheld, Finley would have to sit out a year after switching SEC West allegiances. Should that outdated policy be no more, Finley could be headed to Auburn to play for Bryan Harsin in 2021.

“Some SEC schools wanted me to wait on that rule because of course if they bring me in, they expect me to compete and try to play this year and not have to sit out or wait or whatever,” said Finley, via Al.com. “That plays a big part in my decision on where I want to go play.”

If Finley were to transfer to Auburn and be eligible to play right away, he would likely serve as the backup to incumbent starter Bo Nix. Finley expressed excitement about Harsin’s system and competing for the starting job.

“They have a new system going in, and they feel like I fit their system, and it’s a lot of things that they are telling me that are very promising,” said Finley. “Not saying they’re promising me anything, but it’s promising as far as the future. It’s basically that I can come in and compete for the starting job, and if I were good enough to be the No. 1 guy, I would be the No. 1 guy.”

As far as when Finley will make a decision on where he will commit, he expects that to happen shortly after the June 3 ruling.

Auburn football: Are Tigers in the lead to land TJ Finley in the transfer portal?

Other SEC schools that have shown interest in Finley include Alabama, Mississippi State and Texas A&M. This comes as no surprise, given that all three of these teams compete in the same SEC West division as LSU. Outside of the SEC footprint, Big Ten teams like Michigan and Penn State have shown interest in Finley.

Overall, Auburn feels like the best potential landing spot for Finley. The Ponchatoula, Louisiana native would be able to play in the same division, as well as compete for a starting job.
