No, this isn’t deja vu. The Atlanta Braves bullpen blows leads night after night. Against the Mets on Wednesday, Atlanta’s ‘pen stole defeat from the jaws of victory yet again.
Yes, the analogy is meant to go the other way.
Shane Greene can’t arrive in Atlanta soon enough, though Brian Snitker recently slated him for 6-to-8 appearances at Triple-A Gwinnett before that happens. For now, the Braves must go with what they have.
The only problem? What they have has not been working to say the least.
Atlanta gave up three runs (and counting) to the Mets on Wednesday despite holding a 3-1 lead at one point and receiving an RBI courtesy of the starting pitcher. Something has to give.
Atlanta Braves fans are ready to explode
The Braves have lost three straight games and are on the verge of being swept by the Mets (assuming the result holds). With the loss, they would fall five full games out of first place in the NL East despite holding the lead in several of these games.
Atlanta’s struggles so far this season don’t make much sense. On paper, they’re loaded. Injuries to the starting rotation have placed extra emphasis on the bullpen, which has not delivered.
Fans have had enough.
I mean it's just impressive at this point. The Braves bullpen blows a lead literally every night. https://t.co/Te0x6dXFUv

You’d think the #Braves bullpen would be masters at overcoming adversity considering how much practice they get by creating it themselves.

At my first #Braves game tonight ... the bullpen is much, much worse in person than on TV ...

Can we take all bullpen decisions away from Snit? He obviously hasn’t paid any attention to watching these guys “pitch” this year. pic.twitter.com/pK7fFDGOWo

There were more, of course.
PECOTA predicted the Braves to win 86 games, which felt like it was on the lower side to start the season. Suddenly, that third place NL East finish is looking more on par than originally thought.
