Colorado Rockies fans are understandably furious with Charlie Blackmon after he basically gift-wrapped a homer for the San Diego Padres.

This play is going to be showcased for years to come, but for all of the wrong reasons. What in the world was Charlie Blackmon thinking here? In a showdown between the Colorado Rockies and San Diego Padres, Blackmon displayed one of the worst efforts you’ll ever seen.

On a deep drive by San Diego’s Jake Cronenworth that went off the wall, Blackmon chased after the ball, but with absolutely no urgency. Cronenworth was on his horse and ended up recording an inside-the-park homer. This is truly a rough look for Blackmon.

Charlie Blackmon owes his Rockies teammates an apology

As you can see in the video above, Blackmon was basically jogging here. With Cronenworth sprinting, nothing was going to stop him from making things 2-0 in favor of the Padres. At the same time, Cronenworth also paused for just a split second to see if Blackmon decided to actually hustle. He did not, so Cronenworth made him pay for it.

Imagine what Bud Black was thinking while seeing Blackmon do this. He has every right to be furious. It’d be one thing if Blackmon was a rookie and just recorded a mental mistake, but the man is an 11-year veteran, spending every season in the bigs in Colorado.

He’s no question beloved by supporters, but there really is no excuse for his laziness. He indeed gift-wrapped San Diego with a free run. He simply can’t afford to let that kind of thing happen again. If he does, he’s going to lose plenty of supporters all over Denver and at Coors Field.
