PFF thinks Tyreek Hill is the best deep threat in NFL history but I’m here to remind you it’s actually Randy Moss.

The best thing to happen today doesn’t mean it’s the greatest thing to ever happen. Let me stand up on my soapbox to tell you about what’s wrong with this generation because the recency bias is way too strong and the lack of knowledge or appreciation for what happened yesterday needs to stop.

PFF analyst Anthony Treash was the subject of much consternation on Twitter on Wednesday with his statement that Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill may be the best deep threat in NFL history.

Okay, but is he even the best deep threat in the NFL right now?

Hill is phenomenal with legit track speed that could see him a better contender to qualify for the Olympics in the 100 than D.K. Metcalf. Hill is great and an All-Pro talent for Patrick Mahomes and easily one of the most dangerous receivers in the game today.

But, have you heard of Randy Moss?!

Randy Moss is the NFL’s best deep threat of all time, not Tyreek Hill

Moss is without question the best deep threat to play in the NFL.

In the words of Bret Hart, he is the best there was, the best there is and the best there ever will be.

He struck fear in the hearts of cornerbacks who had the unfortunate task of trying to cover him on Sundays or Monday nights. There’s no chance they were able to sleep the night before lining up against him.

Jerry Rice is the greatest wide receiver of all time led the NFL with 50-plus yard touchdowns before DeSean Jackson surpassed him, and are both better deep threats than Hill.

If you were born in 2018 or just started watching football last season, you would be correct in saying Hill is the best deep threat in your mind, but football history goes beyond your limited scope.

Thankfully, the Vikings account was able to tweet out the highlight montage of the 40-yard touchdowns of the Hall of Fame career of Moss to remind these kids about his unmatched skills.

For their careers, Moss averaged 15.5 yards per reception to 14.6 for Hill. Moss had at least one 50-plus yard touchdown for the first 12 seasons of his career. Hill has four in a row, but he’s got a long way to go before he can even be mentioned in the same breath as the GOAT.
