Bob Arum wants Tyson Fury vs. Deontay Wilder 3 to happen July 24 in Las Vegas
Bob Arum wants Tyson Fury vs. Deontay Wilder 3 to happen July 24 in Las Vegas.
Bob Arum, Eddie Hearn, Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua all had their plans turned upside down when an arbitrator ruled that Fury must fight Deontay Wilder by September 15, or Wilder would have to be paid a step aside fee.
With no step-aside agreement reached, both Fury and Joshua must go ahead without each other for the time being. While Joshua’s immediate future is relatively uncertain, Arum and Fury must now begin negotiating with Deontay Wilder and Al Haymon.
Arum and Fury certainly wants to move as fast as possible, as they still wants to make the big-money unification bout with Joshua by the end of the year, so the the date that Arum is currently targeting for the Wilder rubber match is July 24 in Las Vegas.
Per Mike Coppinger, they are looking for the venue to be Allegiant Stadium, the brand new stadium that opened in 2020, and is home to the Las Vegas Raiders.
Coppinger also reports that an alternative date being considered is August 14, presumably also in Las Vegas.
Everyone involved in the Fury-Joshua negotiations were frustrated following the ruling, it is not every day that you secure a $150 million site fee, and the longer you put off making the fight, the higher chance you risk of someone losing.
Joshua himself has shown he is already susceptible to being upset, when Andy Ruiz spoiled his US debut. And despite Fury dominating Wilder in their second fight, Wilder nearly knocked Fury out in their first contest. Wilder is still the hardest hitting fighter in the entire sport, no matter how confident you are, you do not want to risk running into one of those right hands if you don’t have to, all it takes is one to end the fight.
Despite the seemingly endless negations and uncertainty involving who is facing who, the heavyweight division figures to have some excellent fights in the coming months.
