The New York Yankees could be in the market to trade for Joey Gallo of the Texas Rangers.

With the 2021 MLB trade deadline rapidly approaching, the New York Yankees could potentially add Joey Gallo of the Texas Rangers this summer.

The Yankees are 25-19 through their first 44 games this season. While that is certainly a record to build on, New York finds itself in third place in the AL East divisional race. Mark Feinsand of MLB.com writes that Gallo could solve the Yankees’ issues from the left side of the plate, especially with Aaron Hicks’ nagging wrist injury. He expects Gallo to be traded this summer.

Why do the Yankees make a ton of sense to add a power bat in Gallo ahead of the deadline?

MLB trade rumors: Joey Gallo to the New York Yankees could happen

Gallo is entering his last offseason of arbitration before he would become a free agent in 2023. The Henderson, Nevada native has spent his entire big league career in the Rangers organization, making the AL All-Star team in 2019 and earning his first Gold Glove last year. While he is struggling at the plate this year, he could benefit from the protection he would get in New York.

The Yankees already have two huge power bats in Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton, but both hit from the right side of the plate. Gallo can play anywhere in the outfield and man either corner infield position, as well as DH. With the Rangers in last place already in the AL West, Feinsand expects Texas to be sellers at the deadline. The Rangers could get quite the offer for Gallo.

Do not be shocked if Gallo is the next star to find himself donning pinstripes in The Bronx.
