Texas football recruit Jaydon Blue is opting out of his senior season of high school football.

In a bit of a head-scratcher, four-star running back Jaydon Blue plans to opt-out of his senior season to get ready to join Steve Sarkisian’s Texas football program in Spring 2022.

247Sports reports of Blue’s intentions to opt-out of his senior year. He was planning on enrolling early on the Austin campus next spring. Blue committed to Texas shortly after Sarkisian was hired as head coach in February. This was his decision to opt-out and he has informed Sarkisian and the Texas football staff of his decision to do so. No other details have surfaced over why he opted out.

According to the 247Sports Composite, the Klein Cain High School standout from Houston is the No. 3 running back in the country, the No. 12 player from Texas and the No. 48 player nationally in the 2022 recruiting cycle. He is 5-foot-11.5 and 205 pounds. Blue has 26 official offers, including the one he has with Texas. Blue committed on Feb. 26 and makes his official visit on June 18.

How should Texas football fans feel about Blue opting out ahead of his season year in high school?

While opting out was just part of the deal associated with sports at all levels throughout 2020, it is 2021 now. As for Texas fans, this may not sit well with them, especially for those who are buying into the culture that Sarkisian is building.

Again, we do not know the details of why Blue is opting out, but doing so to get your body right and focus on academics ahead of enrolling early kind of gives off the complacency narrative commonplace within the Texas program. Sarkisian may love Blue’s talent and this may work out for both parties, but having a prized recruit sit out a season may not sit well with him.
