Los Angeles Lakers star Anthony Davis has shouldered the blame for the team suffering a Game 1 loss to the Phoenix Suns.

Despite the Los Angeles Lakers being considered the favorites going up against the Phoenix Suns, the No. 2 seed shocked plenty of people on Sunday in taking down LeBron James, Anthony Davis and the rest of the Lake Show.

Over in Arizona, the Suns indeed took down the Lakers, leaving the arena with a strong 99-90 victory. Unfortunately for Davis, he had a game to remember. After the tough loss, the superstar came out and blamed himself for the team’s defeat in selfless fashion.

Anthony Davis called himself out for his poor play in Game 1 against the Suns

As you can see from the quote above, Davis was downright furious with himself after the loss. It’s easy to understand why. Usually one of the best players on the hardwood, the veteran finished with 13 points and seven rebounds. That’s the textbook definition of an off day for Davis.

What was really concerning was how poorly he shot the ball, as Davis went 5-of-16 on his attempts. That’s simply not going to get the job done, especially against a team as good as Phoenix is.

On top of Davis struggling, James also had a quite day at work as well. James scored 18 points and added 10 assists. For both these players, they simply have to play better if they want to take this series from the Suns. Early on, Phoenix went out and sent quite a statement with the Game 1 victory, with Devin Booker’s 34 points leading the way.

It will now be on the Lakers to step up in Game 2 to try and even up the series. It goes without saying, but Davis will need to play far better if he wants to give his side a chance at winning.
