Former NBA star Jeremy Lin isn’t ready to retire just yet
Former Knicks and Raptors guard Jeremy Lin says he’s not retiring yet, keeping his options open for next season after a year in the G League.
Jeremy Lin isn’t done with the NBA just yet. At least, that’s what he hopes.
The guard who took New York by storm for a brief window says he is preparing to play next season and is keeping his options open, per Marc Stein of the New York Times.
This comes after Lin posted an emotional message on Twitter last week that sounded like his retirement was imminent.
Lin may want back into the league, but it’s not clear if anyone will accommodate him on their roster.
Jeremy Lin intends to continue his career in the NBA if he can
At 32 years old, Lin spent part of the 2020-21 season playing in the G League. He had been playing in China for the Beijing Ducks in the Chinese Basketball Association.
In January, he joined Golden State affiliate the Santa Cruz Warriors. In nine games of action, averaged 19.8 points on 50.5 percent shooting with 3.2 rebounds and 6.4 assists.
Despite the solid numbers and ranking seventh among G League scorers, Lin never got a call up to the NBA.
The last time Lin was in the NBA things turned out pretty well for him. He signed with the Raptors in 2019 after being waived by the Hawks and went on to win an NBA Championship ring. He averaged seven points per game in that brief stint in Toronto, though his playoff appearances were limited.
Does Lin have anything left to give an NBA squad? He definitely thinks he does, but the fact that no one took a chance on him this year is a worry. Maybe something will be different this offseason. Or maybe Lin will opt to finish out his career in another basketball league if the NBA door appears truly shut.
