The NBA wouldn’t dare anger its greatest marketing ploy in Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James, even if he may or may not have broken the rules.

Upon further review (cough), the NBA now insists LeBron did not breaking COVID-19 protocol when he held a photoshoot with Drake and Michael B. Jordan just days before the Lakers vs Warriors play-in game.

So, what changed? By technicality, LeBron apparently did not break the rules.

“To clarify any remaining misconception, LeBron James briefly attended an outdoor event last week where participants were required to be vaccinated or return a negative test result. Under these circumstances and in consultation with medical experts, it was determined that his attendance did not create risks related to the spread of COVID-19 and therefore no quarantine was necessary,” The NBA wrote in a lengthy statement.

NBA news: LeBron James apparently didn’t do anything wrong

Attending an event with non-NBA personnel just days before playing in an important play-in tournament still feels a little sketchy, despite what the league is trying to do here.

It makes sense that the Association is trying to cover their tracks if, in fact, they jumped the gun a little by originally considering what LeBron did a break from protocol.

Either way, James seems fine with the matter. The Lakers have bigger issues to worry about, especially after losing Game 1 to the Phoenix Suns on Sunday.

James is reportedly starting to feel like his old self again, slowly but surely recovering from an ankle injury he suffered late in the regular season.
