The New York Yankees will have to find a way to cope without pitcher Corey Kluber, who suffered an injury and faces a stint on the injured list.

The New York Yankees had tough news to share about Corey Kluber on Wednesday.

The pitcher who is just a week removed from throwing the first no-hitter of his career will be out for a month with a rotator cuff problem.

Kluber had to leave Tuesday’s loss to the Toronto Blue Jays with tightness in his shoulder. It was his first start since the no-hitter, but he only managed three innings of action.

An MRI revealed a strain in Kluber’s subscapularis, the largest muscle of the rotator cuff.

Manager Aaron Boone said Kluber would have to go four weeks with no throwing, per Bryan Hoch of MLB.com.

Corey Kluber was dealing before his injury

Kluber made himself a Yankees legend when he threw a no-hitter in his debut season with the club. The no-no against the Texas Rangers was the first for New York since David Cone in 1999.

The two-time Cy Young winner and three-time All-Star had a shaky first month. However, he came alive in May with an ERA of 3.04 during the month. Unfortunately, just as he was finding his feet, this injury hit.

The Yankees are 28-20, having won six of their last seven. However, that loss came to Toronto, 6-2. Kluber gave up two runs before exiting and the pitching staff couldn’t hold on to give New York’s batter’s a chance to make up the difference.

Losing Kluber for at least four weeks could be the push the Yankees need to pursue other options for the pitching staff.

On the plus side, New York has the fourth-best ERA in MLB and they’ve gotten strong performances out of Gerrit Cole, Jordan Montgomery and Domingo German in recent weeks.
