Noah Syndergaard will miss another six weeks after re-injuring himself this week.

The perpetually cursed New York Mets are ending Noah Syndergaard’s comeback attempt, further delaying his return to the rotation.

Syndergaard was removed from his Tuesday rehab start due to what the team determined was “elbow soreness”. The Mets ace is coming off Tommy John surgery and the hope was he’d be able to rehab and return to the club a few months into the season.

It now appears that won’t be the case.

“Noah Syndergaard has been shut down for six weeks with right elbow inflammation. No structural damage, but he’ll be down until at least August,” DiComo reported on Thursday morning.

The good news is there’s no structural damage, but the bad news is this is just another roadblock to getting Syndergaard healthy. The bad news is he won’t return until August at the earliest and likely won’t begin to throw until after the All-Star Break in the middle of July.

Complicating matters is the fact that Syndergaard is in a contract year and will be an unrestricted free agent after the season.

It’s stating the obvious, but New York will have a big decision on its hands when it comes to whether or not Syndergaard returns, and what his value to the team is moving forward. There has been hesitation in the past to move on from Syndergaard, as trade talks have been rebuffed by the front office time and time again — something that has aged incredibly poorly given the lack of production and the inability to stay healthy displayed by Syndergaard.
