Los Angeles Lakers head coach Frank Vogel provided an injury update on Anthony Davis, who left Game 4 on Sunday with a groin strain.

The Los Angeles Lakers‘ path to back-to-back NBA championship victories just got a lot more difficult. During Game 4, forward Anthony Davis was seen on the floor clutching his left leg after a layup attempt in the first half. Davis did not return after halftime, as the Lakers announced he was done for the game with a left groin strain.

Following their 100-92 loss to the Phoenix Suns on Sunday, Lakers head coach Frank Vogel said Davis is undergoing additional evaluation and revealed they will have an update on Monday.

After Davis left Sunday’s game, the momentum significantly tilted in the Suns’ favor. Even though the Lakers did attempt to make it close at the end of the fourth quarter, it was too simply too late.

Davis’ presence on the court is pivotal to the Lakers advancing past the first-round of the NBA Playoffs. When Davis struggled in Game 1, Los Angeles lost. But in Games 2 and 3, Davis dropped 34 points in each contest, resulting in wins. Davis tallied six points before exiting with his injury in Game 4.

This season has been far from injury free for Davis. Back in February, Davis was sidelined for two months after picking up a right calf strain and aggravating tendinosis in his right Achilles. Even during Game 3, Davis picked up a left knee sprain that he carried into Sunday’s game.

Lakers fans will be checking their social media feeds and Twitter notifications throughout Monday to see how severe Davis’ injury is and how much time he will miss. Either way, the Lakers road to the NBA Finals got that much more challenging.
