With maybe a year left in the tank, Ben Roethlisberger wants to give the Pittsburgh Steelers everything he’s got this upcoming season.

Big Ben knows the clock is ticking on his illustrious career. He is not the superstar player he used to be in his prime. While he could have retired after last January’s home playoff collapse to the division rival Cleveland Browns, Roethlisberger took a pay cut for one last shot at winning a third Super Bowl. The team’s championship window is cracked open ever so slightly this NFL season.

For Pittsburgh to win a Super Bowl this season and allow Roethlisberger to ride off into the sunset as a champion, the Steelers have one pathway to do so. Pittsburgh must win with defense and complement that with a ball-control offense. The good news is the defense could be elite again. Even better, the Steelers used the No. 24 overall pick on Doak Walker award winner Najee Harris.

If Harris can be a fifth of what Franco Harris was in Steelers uniform, we might have a victory parade Dahntahn for all the Yinzers to celebrate. While the Steelers have a six pack of Lombardi Trophies to thoroughly enjoy, Lucky No. 7 has evaded them for well over a decade now. The Steelers should finish above .500 this season, but they will need some luck to win it all in 2021.

Roethlisberger may only have 17-to-20 NFL games left in the tank, so he should savor them.
