Ohio State football commit Quinn Ewers reminds one Power Five starter of Patrick Mahomes.

During The QB Retreat over Memorial Day Weekend, Ohio State football commit Quinn Ewers drew a lofty comparison to Patrick Mahomes from one notable Power Five starting quarterback.

Alabama football star Bryce Young, who was serving as one of the camp’s many counselors, likened the Southlake, Texas native to the Kansas City Chiefs starting quarterback. “He’s got some Pat Mahomes in him the way he throws it,” said Young. With a platinum blonde mullet, a rocket for a right arm and the gunslinger mentality you will only find in Texas, the comparison feels spot-on.

You need to check out all of Ewers’ highlights from The QB Retreat over Memorial Day Weekend.

Ohio State football commit Quinn Ewers could be the next Patrick Mahomes

Ewers is the No. 1 overall recruit for 2022, according to the 247Sports Composite. While he initially committed to play in-state for the Texas Longhorns, a coaching change in Austin led to him committing to the Buckeyes ahead of his senior season of high school football. Under Ryan Day and Urban Meyer before that, the Buckeyes have had a treasure trove of excellent quarterbacks.

Ultimately, to be compared to Mahomes is a bit flattering. We have to remember that he was not a top-tier recruit coming out of high school in Tyler, Texas. Many people thought Mahomes would play baseball as his father did. Despite quarterbacking a sub-.500 team at Texas Tech, Mahomes emerged as a first-round talent in 2017. Since 2018, he has been the best quarterback in the NFL.

If Ewers can be half as good as Mahomes was in college, then Ohio State is in fantastic shape.
