2. Let Evan Fournier walk

Boston acquired Evan Fournier via trade in March, giving up Jeff Teague and two future second-round draft picks in return for the wing. Due to the NBA’s COVID health and safety protocols, Fournier played just 16 games with the Celtics before the end of the regular season. The Frenchman was rather inconsistent in his limited floor time. For example, he went scoreless in his Boston debut despite 33 minutes of action, then hit seven 7s a few days later against the Houston Rockets, scoring 20 of his 23 points that night in a perfect-shooting fourth-quarter performance.

Overall, Fournier’s numbers were down from his Orlando Magic days. He was held scoreless or to single digits in six of those 16 games before the playoffs. That’s not great for a player with a career average of 14 points a game.

Ultimately, Fournier just did not have the impact many hoped he would. While the veteran looked somewhat better in the playoffs, we’re just not sure he’s worth the $15-20 million annually he’s reportedly seeking. The Celtics need an upgrade and have limited cap space to play with. They’d be better off letting Fournier find a new home in free agency and spending that money elsewhere.
