Ben Zobrist will, in fact, NOT be the first Chicago Cubs player to attempt to sell his 2016 World Series ring.

Not even five years ago, Ben Zobrist and the rest of the 2016 Chicago Cubs broke the Curse of the Billy Goat; now, the 2016 World Series MVP was reportedly looking to sell his championship ring.

One would think a World Series ring like this would be priceless since pretty much nobody alive saw them win it all the time before back in 1908. But Zobrist is a very peculiar case here. He won a World Series the year prior when he was on the 2015 Kansas City Royals. So he would still have that one, but could make a fortune selling his one with the Cubs. Then again, this feels so weird.

These rumors were debunked on Saturday.

Chicago Cubs: Ben Zobrist isn’t putting his World Series ring up for auction

Zobrist did go through a divorce in his final year in the big leagues in 2019. While we do not want to speculate on his finances, maybe this is a contributing factor to these rumors? Either way, Zobrist is holding onto this prized commodity.

Ultimately, Zobrist can do whatever he wants. He would not the first person to auction off a championship ring. However, there are few championship rings you would think people would want to willingly get rid of, like those honoring the 1994 New York Rangers, the 2004 Boston Red Sox, the 2016 Cleveland Cavaliers and the 2016 Cubs’ seasons.

Zobrist would’ve made a fortune selling his 2016 World Series, but it turns out it’s priceless.
