Third-Team All-American guard Cain Madden is transferring from Marshall to the Notre Dame football team.

After playing his college ball for the Marshall Thundering Herd, 2020 All-American guard Cain Madden is making his way to South Bend to play for the Notre Dame football team.

Madden was a Third-Team All-American last year playing for Marshall. With a new coaching staff in place and having already graduated from Marshall, Madden opted to transfer to a Power 5 school were he can really make a name for himself. He joins former Wisconsin quarterback Jack Coan as the biggest names to transfer to Notre Dame this offseason. What a get for the Irish!

Madden made it official by tweeting this sweet graphic out on his Twitter account on Friday.

Notre Dame football: All-American guard Cain Madden commits to the Irish

While Notre Dame may not return to the College Football Playoff this year, the Irish are among the eight best programs in the country. Head coach Brian Kelly has this thing humming. Throughout his time leading the Golden Domers, great offensive line play has been his team’s calling card. If you thrive in the trenches playing for Kelly at Notre Dame, you will get drafted in the first round.

As far as adding Madden to the mix, it will go a long way towards ensuring Notre Dame that it can pivot to Coan, as long-time starter Ian Book now plays for the NFL‘s New Orleans Saints. Because they are not playing in a conference this year, Notre Dame has to go 12-0 to have any shot at making the playoff. However, they should be good enough to make it to a New Year’s Six Bowl.

By landing Madden in the transfer portal, Notre Dame is giving itself its best opportunity to win.
