Just exactly how did Floyd Mayweather vs. Logan Paul perform on pay-per-view Sunday night despite the outage issues that many fans faced?

Floyd Mayweather and Logan Paul competed in an eight-round exhibition match to determine celebrity supremacy. While the fight was lackluster, it sure proved to be a hot ticket on pay-per-view and in-person, although Hard Rock Stadium didn’t bring the noise as many thought it would.

Despite pay-per-view outage issues, Mayweather vs. Paul performed quite well, even in the age of streaming media and entertainment. The fight also was not competing against any major sports, as the NBA and NHL playoff games had concluded for the day. A major difference, however, was that the event took place on a Sunday and not a Saturday, which may have had an impact on the final buyrate numbers.

Floyd Mayweather and Logan Paul generated 600,000-650,000 pay-per-view buys

Early indications from The Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer say that Mayweather-Paul did between 600,000 and 650,000 buys, but the number does not include streaming platforms Showtime and Fanmio, which were the two major services who aired the fight to non-cable subscribers.

Mayweather has been involved in some blockbuster events, including his bouts against Conor McGregor and Manny Pacquiao, which both generation 4 million+ buys in 2017 and 2015, respectively.

The UFC, however, holds the majority of the biggest events in the history of pay-per-view. These events include UFC 66, UFC 100, UFC 148, UFC 194, UFC 202, UFC 205, UFC 229, and UFC 257, to name a few. A common denominator with all of these events is that they each eclipsed one-million buys or more at the time that they aired.

While the streaming numbers haven’t been revealed, it’s safe to say that the event did well across all platforms, despite the outages, because the majority of the public paid to see the main event and only the main event.

It is unclear as to if Mayweather or Paul will compete again, but if either man does, the world will be watching.
