5 teams who should be calling the Celtics about a Kemba Walker trade
3. Miami Heat
Pat Riley is always willing to hunt for stars, so the Heat can’t be ruled out of anything ever as coach Erik Spoelstra has made the player mix work. They have a $19.4 million club option on point guard Goran Dragic, which they could pick up or just let him go free. So they could be in the market for a point guard, and an upgrade should be on the radar in a broad sense.
Miami can’t have Jimmy Butler as its lone offensive facilitator. He’s been surrounded with the right pieces in general, but Bam Adebayo has been two inconsistent as a second fiddle. Victor Oladipo can’t be counted on to stay healthy, and he might not be ready for the start of next season anyway if the Heat do somehow decide to re-sign him.
A backcourt of Butler and Walker would look pretty good in Miami, at least for a couple years as both stretch into their 30s. Assuming they pick up the option on Dragic, and pick up the option on another veteran, the Heat can make a deal for Walker work more easily.
