Texas A&M wrapped up its coaching search by getting Jim Schlossnagle to leave TCU and Forth Worth for the Aggies and College Station.

The TCU Horned Frogs were recently bounced from the 2021 NCAA Baseball Tournament and are now in need of a new head coach. Longtime TCU coach Jim Schlossnagle is leading Fort Worth for College Station to be the next head coach of the Texas A&M Aggies.

Over 18 seasons with the TCU Horned Frogs, Schlossnagle’s teams won a lot. Schlossnagle is headed to Texas A&M with an astonishing record of 734-346 and is TCU’s all-time winningest coach.

Now he is headed to the SEC to try his hand at leading the Aggies in one of the toughest divisions in college baseball.

This isn’t the first time Schlossnagle has been courted by a maroon-clad SEC team. After Mississippi State and Andy Cannizaro had an awkward separation, the Bulldogs tried to get Schlossnagle to leave TCU for Starkville and the Carnegie Hall of college baseball.

He ended up staying with the Horned Frogs then, but now Schlossnagle has a shot to lead a program looking to reach new heights with new leadership.

Texas A&M hired TCU’s Jim Schlossnagle after the Aggies decided to move on from Rob Childress

The Aggies are likely hoping for an elevated level of success under Schlossnagle’s direction. Texas A&M was consistently a good program with former head coach Rob Childress at the helm, but A&M likely has higher aspirations than what Childress was able to get the Aggies to accomplish.

Childress had been the head coach of the Aggies since the 2006 season and was able to guide A&M to 13 straight NCAA Baseball Tournament appearances. But, unfortunately for Childress and the Aggies, Texas A&M only made it to Omaha and the College World Series twice during that span.

Meanwhile, Schlossnagle has seen plenty of success with the Horned Frogs over the past 18 seasons. TCU has made it to the College World Series five times under Schlossnagle’s direction. With Schlossnagle’s leadership, TCU has a 33-18 record in Regionals, 11-8 record in Super Regionals and 11-10 record in the College World Series.

The Aggies are getting a coach who has proven to be a consistent threat in postseason play. Now it remains to be seen as to who will be leading the Horned Frogs moving forward.
