With the New York Mets in the middle of a great season, they could make things even sweeter by being aggressive ahead of the MLB trade deadline.

Here we are in early June and things are going according to plan for the New York Mets. The NL East squad has been superb this season, as they’re 32-25 and hold a three-game lead over the Philadelphia Phillies. Folks all over Queens are having quite a blast.

Well, things could get even better for the team if Steve Cohen and the rest of the front office decided to make some power moves ahead of the trade deadline on July 30. One player to watch out for moving forward would no question be Detroit Tigers hurler Matthew Boyd.

The Mets trading for starting pitcher Matthew Boyd would be outstanding

Boyd arrived to the Motor City back in 2015 and has enjoyed some good and bad times with the Tigers. This season, he’s 3-6 with a 3.56 ERA. While that win-loss record is a bit concerning, he’s not one to get a ton of run support from Detroit. That 3.56 ERA is what should have the Mets intrigued.

Adding a veteran left-handed starter would of course be a huge deal for the ball club leading into the summer months. New York has high hopes of not only winning the division this year, but also making serious noise in the postseason.

In order for that to happen, they’re going to need to strengthen the lineup and rotation. At the same time, people in Flushing are waiting for Francisco Lindor to live up to his massive hype. With all of that being said, Boyd to New York would send the rest of the NL East a message. We’ll see what the Mets can do before July 30 arrives.
