1 trade Cubs could make right now to shake off the Brewers
If the Chicago Cubs want to come out on top of the NL Central battle with the Milwaukee Brewers, they need to go out and trade for outfielder Starling Marte.
The NL Central standings couldn’t be closer right now, as both the Chicago Cubs and Milwaukee Brewers are neck and neck in the race. As of this writing, Milwaukee holds a 0.5 game lead on Chicago, with the Cubs ready to jump ahead.
With the MLB trade deadline all set for July 30, you better believe the Cubs will be busy in trying to improve the lineup. One player they must go all-in to try and land is without question star outfielder Starling Marte.
MLB rumors: Cubs need to pull out all the stops to try and trade for Starling Marte
Could you imagine Marte’s power in the middle of the Cubs lineup with the likes of Anthony Rizzo, Kris Bryant, Javier Baez and others? Goodness. Marte is having a sensational season for the Miami Marlins, as the slugger is hitting .351, with five home runs and 15 RBI.
Miami unfortunately has struggled throughout the spring, as the NL East club is a lowly 29-36. With the Marlins not expected to sniff postseason action, they could look to sell Marte at a high price and continue their rebuild.
The Cubs would of course have to put some top prospects on the table in exchange for Marte, but he’d most certainly be worth it for David Ross and Chicago. If the Cubs want to make something happen, again, they’d have until July 30 to put a sexy offer on the table for Miami.
Cubs fans of course would welcome Marte to town with open arms. The thought alone of having him mash dingers at Wrigley Field is enough to make folks in Chicago smile. Now we must see if the front office can get things done.
