Cleveland Indians: 1 trade to make to get back in AL Central race, 1 trade to avoid
By Scott Rogust
1 player to avoid trading for: OF Joey Gallo
If Cleveland want to improve their hitting, they need someone who is not a home run specialist. They need someone like a Frazier. Taking this into consideration, Cleveland should not be calling the Texas Rangers about outfielder Joey Gallo.
The Rangers slugger is just that…a slugger. He can hit home runs with no issue, but he is sure going to strike out a lot. Through 64 games this season, Gallo has recorded the third-most strikeouts in the league with 84, ranking just behind Chicago Cubs shortstop Javier Baez (90) and Oakland Athletics third baseman Matt Chapman (86). Gallo has as many strikeouts as Frazier has hits. Just think about that.
Overall, Gallo is slashing .216/.375/.399 while recording 11 home runs, 30 RBI, 34 runs scored and 46 hits.
There are simply better outfielders and hitters for Cleveland to target than Gallo leading up to the trade deadline. Acquiring Gallo provides to much risk, do not let his 51 walks (second-best in majors) fool you.
