The St. Louis Cardinals have gone out and signed a veteran hurler, with pitcher Wade LeBlanc on his way to Busch Stadium.

Thus far, the 2021 season hasn’t quite gone according to plan for the 35-33 St. Louis Cardinals. However, a recent three-game sweep of the Miami Marlins has the club just three games back of the Brewers and Cubs at the top of the NL Central standings.

With the pitching staff struggling, the front office has decided to go out and get an experienced arm. More importantly, it’s a lefty, with the team agreeing to a new deal with veteran pitcher Wade LeBlanc.

Believe it or not, this is now the ninth team LeBlanc will suit up for throughout his 13-year career. The pitcher knows all about traveling to new places and making a difference. Now, the Cardinals are hoping he’ll be able to do the same for the club.

Again, things really haven’t gone according to plan for the club this spring, but they’re only three games out of first place. With plenty of baseball still left to be played this summer, St. Louis sure has what it takes to come away with a division title later this year.

In order for that to happen, however, the rotation and bullpen must step its game up. While LeBlanc has plenty of starting experience, the expectation is that he’ll be a reliever for the Cardinals. That’s good news for manager Mike Shildt, as you can never have enough experienced left-handed pitchers ready to come in during late-inning situations. LeBlanc is already on the active roster and will be ready to record some timely outs whenever his number is called.
