SoFi Stadium partners with Jimmy Kimmel to rename bowl game, Jimmy Kimmel LA Bowl

SoFi Stadium has partnered with Jimmy Kimmel to rename the LA Bowl to the Jimmy Kimmel LA Bowl.

SoFi Stadium has a new sponsor for the LA Bowl, as it has been remanded the Jimmy Kimmel LA Bowl after the popular late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel.

The Jimmy Kimmel LA Bowl will be played at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California between the No. 1 Mountain West team, assuming that team does not win the Group of Five, and the No. 5 Pac-12 team. Kimmel is an alum of Arizona State University and had been enrolled at UNLV in his native Las Vegas, Nevada prior to transferring to the Pac-12 school after his freshman year.

“Stan Kroenke designed Hollywood Park to be a sports and entertainment destination for Angelenos and visitors from across the world to enjoy. We cannot think of a better way to bring sports and entertainment together than by collaborating with celebrated late-night host and comedian Jimmy Kimmel on our collegiate bowl game,” said executive director of the Jimmy Kimmel LA Bowl Jason Gannon.

“Jimmy Kimmel LA Bowl will not only bring an incredible game day experience to fans, but it will also focus on supporting our community 365 days a year.”

“Never before has a bowl game been named after a human being (as far as I know, I didn’t check). On December 18, my dream of being forever enshrined alongside orange, rose, cotton and peach comes true,” said Jimmy Kimmel.

SoFi Stadium, Jimmy Kimmel unite to give the world the Jimmy Kimmel LA Bowl

While it sounds nuts to have a bowl game sponsored after a person, this partnership between Kimmel and SoFi Stadium actually makes all the sense in the world. The venue’s creation in Los Angeles Rams owner Stan Kroenke came to Hollywood Park with entertainment on his mind. Kimmel is synonymous with entertainment and has ties to the Mountain West and the Pac-12.

Kimmel is an avid sports fan and SoFi Stadium is one of the best marquee stadiums across the United States. Though college football may not be as popular on the West Coast these days as it is in the Southeast, the Southwest or the Midwest, Los Angeles is an event town and that is what the Jimmy Kimmel LA Bowl plans to be. Here is to San Jose State taking on Arizona State in 2021.

For an upstart bowl in a major media market, this partnership between SoFi and Kimmel is perfect.
