Mikaela Mayer retains WBO title in back-and-forth battle with Erica farias
The first few rounds were fairly close, as Farias came out firing right out of the gate, attempting to bring the fight to Mayer. Farias landed a notable number of punches upstairs on Mayer.
Mayer, however, battled back and started to get comfortable, connecting with a couple of shots that rocked Farias — though Farias had her own big blow in the round with an uppercut.
Farias continued to aim low and inside to the body as she tried to get around Mayer’s physical advantages, though Mayer seemed to land the better of the strikes as the two battled hard.
The pair’s trading didn’t slow down in the final two rounds and they both brought it, though it seemed Mayer threw just a bit more and landed just a bit more.
One judge scored the bout 97-93 and the other two scored it 98-92, all in favor of Mayer.
