The Oklahoma football program got a huge boost with Gavin Sawchuk’s top-50 commitment.

For four-star running back Gavin Sawchuk, the Oklahoma football program felt right at home.

The No. 2 running back in the country and the No. 1 player from Colorado committed to the Oklahoma Sooners right on the spot. Sawchuk is the third top-50 prospect to commit to Oklahoma this cycle, joining wide receiver Luther Burden and fellow running back Raleek Brown. Sawchuk’s commitment moved Oklahoma up five spots in the rankings to the best in the Big 12.

Here is a glimpse at what Sawchuk could be doing in an Oklahoma football uniform.

Oklahoma football: Running back Gavin Sawchuk commits to the Sooners

With this latest commitment, Oklahoma now has a top five recruiting class in the country for 2022. The only teams with a better overall class ranking are the Ohio State Buckeyes, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, the LSU Tigers and the Georgia Bulldogs. Sawchuk is Oklahoma’s ninth commitment of the 2022 recruiting cycle. The Sooners are on pace to finish inside of the top five.

It should not come as much of a surprise that Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley can recruit top-tier offensive talent. What is important though is if the Sooners can continue to recruit at a high level across the board. They will need to be able to get a few defensive stars for them to ever be able to regularly win in the College Football Playoff. At the very least, Sawchuk is a big get here.

If Oklahoma can finish with a top five class for 2022, the Sooners will remain in the playoff mix.
