Report says Kemba Walker was ‘heartbroken’ over being traded to the Thunder
According to a report, former Boston Celtics standout guard Kemba Walker was heartbroken when he found out he was being traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
After only two seasons with the Boston Celtics, Kemba Walker’s time at TD Garden has officially come to a close. Last week, Boston recorded a blockbuster trade and sent Walker to Oklahoma City in a deal that also featured Al Horford.
It turned the NBA upside down. Now, according to Jared Weiss of The Athletic, it’s been revealed that Walker was heartbroken over the deal. The main reason why is because he had developed such a close bond with his teammates, Weiss wrote.
Leaving Boston is incredibly difficult for veteran guard Kemba Walker
Walker of course spent the start of his career with Charlotte, making plays for the team from 2011-2019. Then, he joined the Celtics and played in the All-Star Game last season, averaging 20.4 points per contest. This past campaign, the veteran sharpshooter posted 19.3 points and 4.9 assists per showing.
However, throughout the year, trade rumors swirled and they only heated up after the team was eliminated from the postseason by the Brooklyn Nets. Then, things finally were sent over the top and Walker is now headed to play for the Thunder.
It will be his third organization that he’ll suit up for. He’ll now have to try and build a bond with new players in a new city. This of course won’t be easy for him, especially after he enjoyed his short time with the Celtics. Several players have spoken highly of Walker as a teammate, as he’s known as a good dude in the locker room.
Next up, Walker will look to make the same kind of impact in OKC, and he’ll also look to win over the fan base from the first moment he steps on the floor.
