The Washington Wizards are searching for a new head coach after parting ways with Scott Brooks. Which candidates stand out?

The Washington Wizards have a huge decision to make over the coming weeks.

Who will they tap to lead the franchise going forward now that Scott Brooks is out of the picture?

There are numerous candidates out there who deserve a look. Who are they and why are they worth considering?

5. Wes Unseld Jr.

From the get-go, Wes Unseld Jr. was thrown out as a possible target for the Wizards. The Denver Nuggets associate head coach has a history with Washington. His father is a franchise legend who went on to coach the team and serve as a general manager.

Unseld Jr. himself got his coaching career started with the Wizards in 2005. He worked for the team as a scout and assistant coach before leaving for the Warriors in 2011. After that, he landed with the Orlando Magic, then ended up with the Nuggets in 2015. He’s been there ever since.

Unseld’s time with Denver has been excellent. He has been credited with a strong defensive mindset. He also connects well with players. The likes of Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray have developed well under his watch.

Someone is going to give Wes Unseld Jr. a shot at a head coaching spot eventually. Why not the Wizards?
