1. Chauncey Billups

Chauncey Billups is a hot commodity on the coaching market. Everyone from the Trail Blazers to Orlando Magic and New Orleans Pelicans are reportedly interested, and the Wizards are among those teams.

Billups is currently an assistant coach with the Clippers. He’s picked up serious praise for his work with Paul George, whose improved performance during the playoffs has been notable. Having that kind of impact on Russell Westbrook and the rest of Washington’s backcourt could be the key to everything.

Granted, Billups would be a significantly bolder choice than the others mentioned.

He had an extensive NBA career across 17 years, proving his elite understanding of the game. However, he’s only been an assistant coach for one year. Before joining Lue’s staff ahead of the 2020-21 season, he was an analyst for ESPN and FOX Sports Prime Ticket.

Sometimes, a coach just has what it takes to take the quick leap up to the top job. The question for the Wizards is whether they see Billups as that level of coach despite his relative inexperience.
