San Francisco Giants first baseman Brandon Belt injured himself trying to score the go-ahead run against the Angels on Wednesday.

The San Francisco Giants faced off against the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday in an absolute thriller, but things took a turn for the worse for the Giants in the top of the eighth inning. Star first baseman Brandon Belt went down in the action and he wasn’t able to immediately get up.

With the score tied at 1-1 late in this one, Belt tried to take advantage of an errant throw by sprinting his way home. Unfortunately, he was thrown out and also appeared to suffer a leg injury in the process. Just brutal.

As you can see in the video above, Belt was clearly in a ton of pain and discomfort. He was reaching for what looked to be his hamstring while he was on the ground. He was able to walk off and back into the clubhouse with the help of trainers.

On the year, Belt is hitting .253, with 11 home runs and 28 RBI. With Belt and the other San Francisco standouts stepping up their game this season, the Giants are currently in first place of the NL West standings with their 47-26 record. Everyone figured the Dodgers would be in the No. 1 spot at this point in the season, but LA is three games back of the Giants.

It goes without saying, but the Giants will hope that Belt can get back to full health as soon as possible to help the team try and fend off the Dodgers. Stay tuned for new updates on Belt, but as of now, there’s plenty of concern surrounding his health.
