Ted Lasso and Coach Beard introduced the 18-woman roster for the U.S. Women’s National Team heading into the Olympics in hilarious style.

When it comes to heartwarming and endearing sports figures, there isn’t a better pair than Ted Lasso and the USWNT.

With the Olympics fast approaching, the USWNT turned to Ted Lasso to announce their squad for the coming tournament.

As fans of the acclaimed Apple TV+ series can guess, the announcement was magical.

Jason Sudeikis, in character as Lasso, was joined by Coach Beard, played by co-creator Brendan Hunt, and the two riffed back and forth about the roster.

There were references to Downton Abbey (Rose Lavelle resembles Daisy, doesn’t she?), mismatched cleats (How can you wear just one Golden Boot? Megan Rapinoe probably knows.) and Alex Morgan’s Ted Lasso-inspired goal celebration.

It all ended with some keen advice for UsWNT head coach Vlatko Andonovski.

First, “every time they kick the ball, it’s not coming at you. You don’t always have to duck.”

Second, “learn the local language.” To be honest, the example phrases shared by Beard and translated by Lasso like “Please bring me 1,000 donuts quickly,” might not be super useful in Tokyo.

The Olympic soccer tournament will begin on July 21. The USA is in Group G along with Sweden, Australia and New Zealand. They’ll kick off against Sweden to start their journey.

This squad is looking to make history. No women’s team has ever won the World Cup and then gone on to win the gold medal at the Olympics. Last time, the US women faced major disappointment as they were knocked out in the quarterfinals. Sweden did it, so that first game should be a fun grudge match.
