The Heat thought they made the right move for a guard this past trade deadline by acquiring Victor Oladipo. But the move did not pan out after Oladipo suffered a season-ending knee injury after just five games with the team. They, along with other point guard needy teams, passed on Kyle Lowry and it turned out to backfire in the end.

Luckily for the Heat, they have the option to bring in a player who could be a starting guard for the foreseeable future in the form of Collin Sexton.

A recent report indicated that the Cleveland Cavaliers are exploring trading Sexton this offseason, since they already have Darius Garland on the roster and are in position to select one of Jalen Suggs or Jalen Green with the third-overall pick in the upcoming NBA Draft. That, and Sexton is due for a contract extension.

While the move will come at a high price, the Heat should at least explore making a move. Sexton can play at the point and as a shooting guard. The latter will likely suit him well in Miami, because he can convert on his shot attempts. Through 60 games this past season, Sexton averaged 24.3 points and 4.4 assists (both career-highs) while recording a field goal percentage of 47.5 and a three-point percentage of 37.1.

If the Heat want to fix their shooting woes this offseason while having a player who can play at both guard positions, they should be picking up the phone to contact Cleveland’s front office.
