Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young suffered an ankle injury during Game 3 against the Milwaukee Bucks. Here are the latest updates on his status for Game 4.

The Atlanta Hawks are on injury watch when it comes to star guard Trae Young after he sprained his right ankle in Game 3 against the Bucks.

It couldn’t have been more of a freak accident as Young appeared to step on an officials’ shoe on the sideline. He slipped and twisted the ankle just before the end of the third quarter.

Young looked just fine when he returned to action in the fourth quarter, promptly knocking down a 3-pointer. However, he was definitely not his usual self. He missed his next three attempts and didn’t score any more points in the fourth. He left the game again with just under a minute to play.

Whether it was the ankle itself or a lack of confidence stemming from the tweak, Young couldn’t lead his team past the Bucks this time. Milwaukee took over and outscored Atlanta 30-17 in the decisive period. The Bucks claimed the 113-102 win and a 2-1 series lead.

Now the question is whether or not Young will be hampered by the ankle in Game 4.

The injury was officially dubbed a right ankle sprain by the Hawks after Young’s brief exit.

Head coach Nate McMillan called Young’s ankle “sore” after the game on Sunday night, per Sarah K. Spencer of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Time will tell as Young gets a couple of days to rest before Game 4, which is on Tuesday night in Atlanta. McMillan wasn’t sure if the ankle would be a problem going forward, according to Tim Bontemps of ESPN. He will receive an MRI on Monday, and his plan is to play on Tuesday while getting “as much treatment as possible” before then.
